Mission & Goals
FEANTSA's mission is to end homelessness in Europe. FEANTSA supports its members by undertaking the following activities: 1. Alert the European institutions and national governments concerning the need to prevent and alleviate homelessness 2. Develop and promote policies, which prevent and alleviate homelessness, in view of its elimination 3. Forward specific policy proposals to the European institutions and monitor the progress of the European institutions in preventing and alleviating homelessness 4. Encourage the transnational exchange of experiences between the members with a view to improve policies and practices addressing homelessness 5. Conduct and promote research to better understand the nature, extent and causes of and solutions to homelessness 6. Alert the public about the need to fight homelessness
EU Legislative Interests
Any relevant legislative proposal or other EU action that relates to homelessness and housing exclusion including in the following areas: social policy, health, housing, migration, human rights, anti-discrimination, and climate transition. Our main focus is the social inclusion policies steered by DG EMPL of the European Commission, and more specifically the EU Platform for Combating Homelessness. We will be closely monitor any relevant development related to the forthcoming EU Affordable Housing Plan and the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy.
Communication Activities
FEANTSA organises 2 main in-person events - a European research conference on homelessness (aimed at researchers) and a European Forum on homelessness (aimed at service providers and policy makers). FEANTSA organises a few dozens of other smaller in-person or online events on a variety of topics. These are mostly mutual learning events, but might included events of which the sole purpose is advocacy. FEANTSA runs on an occasional basis European-wide campaigns but these tend to be more focus on the sharing of information and, when it concerns advocacy campaigns, they tend to be focused primarily on policy changes at national level. The last campaign of FEANTSA concerned homelessness during and following the Covid-crisis. FEANTSA issues several publications including a thematic magazine 3x per year), a newsflash (11X), several thematic briefs, an annual report on the state of housing exclusion, a European journal on homelessness (2X) and a comparative thematic research report (1x). We also produce on a regular basis analytical policy briefs and policy statements. We run several websites and are active on social media. FEANTSA is engaged in strategical human rights litigation at European level (focused on collective complaints mechanism of the Council of Europe).
