Mission & Goals
The International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) was founded in Orlando (Florida) as a union of non-denominational, non-profit, independent and private Family Enrichment Centers. Since 1978, IFFD has been working to promote and support different kinds of initiatives which aim to bolster and strengthen the family. Its main activities include delivering training courses for parents, publishing research papers, exchanging information and services, integrating initiatives, promoting teaching activities and research projects, content production and organizing events geared towards the promotion, creation and presentation of awards. It has been conferred General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and it is part of the consortium of the European collaborative research project FamiliesAndSocieties.
EU Legislative Interests
IFFD promotes global events, expert group meetings and researches on family issues and the impact of public policy on families. Some activities: -EU Work-life Balance Directive -European Child Guarantee -Green Paper on Ageing -EESC Opinion on "Demographic challenges in the EU in light of economic and development inequalities" -Opinion of the Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (CoR) on Demographic change -Conference on the Future of Europe IFFD was part of the FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME- FamiliesAndSocieties (2013-2017).
Communication Activities
Main Global Projects: INNOVATING FOR FAMILIES. Building on contributions from the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family, the project aims at integrating expert-driven policy recommendations with innovative perspectives from young researchers in family science in the following key areas of action, TOWARDS 2024 & BEYOND- Preparations for and celebrations of the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family https://familyperspective.org/2022/07/16/towards-2024/ CIVIL SOCIETY DECLARATION. 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE FAMILY. A collaborative statement by various transnational organizations to emphasize the pivotal role of families in societal development and to advocate for policies that support and strengthen family units. This declaration reaffirms the family's essential functions in recovery, governance, cohesion, protection, education, care, and development within societies. It underscores the importance of recognizing and valuing unpaid care and domestic work by providing public services, infrastructure, and social protection policies, and promoting shared responsibilities within households. INCLUSIVE CITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE FAMILIES - This project is directed to cities and territories that wish to actively contribute to SDG11 to be inclusive of sustainable families by being responsive to their needs.
