Mission & Goals
Europeana empowers the cultural heritage sector in its digital transformation by developing expertise, tools and policies to embrace digital change and encourage partnerships that foster innovation. Europeana is made possible by the collaboration of three interlinked expert organisations who share the vision of a cultural heritage sector transformed by digital, and a Europe transformed by culture. Together, we call this ecosystem the Europeana Initiative. Europeana Network Association (ENA) is one of the three pillars of the Europeana Initiative, beside the Europeana Foundation and the Europeana Aggregators' Forum. It is is a strong and democratic community of experts working in the field of digital cultural heritage, united by a shared mission to expand and improve access to Europe's digital cultural heritage. The goal of the Association is to support the long-term sustainability of Europeana Initiative and collectively influence and shape it.
EU Legislative Interests
The Association (ENA) supports the mission and overall advocacy activities of the Europeana Initiative. This includes ENA Chair co-signing various correspondence of the Europeana Initiative towards the European Commission. The ENA was regularly consulted and provided input into development of the Europeana Strategy 2020-2025.
Communication Activities
Between 22 June and 14 September 2020, the European Commission ran an online consultation to investigate the “Opportunities Offered By Digital Technologies For The Cultural Heritage Sector”. On behalf of the Europeana Initiative, together with the Foundation and the EAF, ENA submitted a common position paper that underlines elements critical to executing the Europeana Strategy 2020-2025 and to realising the potential of digital cultural heritage for the recovery of Europe.
