EU Legislative Interests

The EYP supports young media makers and their organisations and works for freedom, diversity and quality of journalism. The EYP supports the access to profession on an international, European and local level. We achieve this through: - Education – working with young media makers, providing training, educative media productions and educational material - Cooperation and exchange with other journalist and media organisations such as, but not limited to, our member organisations and partners, particularly foundations, governmental and non-governmental organisations - Participation – by enabling young journalists to lobby for their cause and by representing young journalists on a policy level e.g. at and with conferences and roundtables and promoting their voice through surveys and publications

Communication Activities

European Youth Press (EYP) is a pan European network of youth media organisations dedicated to supporting the personal, professional, and civic development of young journalists, media makers, and content creators. For more than 20 years, EYP has worked to strengthen youth participation in democratic life through independent, responsible, and inclusive media. The organisation connects more than 60,000 young media makers through 41 member organisations and observers across Europe. Its core mission is to empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to engage critically with media and contribute to high quality journalism and public discourse. EYP promotes media literacy, ethical reporting, digital storytelling, and cross border collaboration, while encouraging intercultural dialogue and active citizenship. EYP organises a wide range of educational and capacity building activities, including seminars, youth exchanges, workshops, conferences, study visits, and training courses. These initiatives support young media makers in developing reporting skills, technical media production competencies, and the ability to critically analyse and communicate complex social and political issues. Over the years, the organisation has implemented numerous projects addressing topics such as media freedom, migration narratives, diversity in media, digital media literacy, and disinformation. Examples include Free Our Media (2015), Data Driven Journalism Against Prejudices About Migration, World Perspectives: Diversity Voices, Digital Media Literacy, and How to Read Media in the Post Truth Era. EYP has also collaborated with European institutions. From 2016 until 2020, it co organised the European Youth Media Days together with the European Parliament, bringing around 100 young journalists to Brussels each year for workshops and dialogue on European affairs. In 2019, EYP and the European Parliament organised the first European Youth Science and Media Days (EYSMD) in Strasbourg, connecting young journalists with experts in science and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Since 2021, EYP has implemented several Erasmus+ projects under Key Action 1, 2, and 3 frameworks. One example is the project Voices of the Next Generation: Future Decision Makers on European Values and Citizenship, implemented with partners from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Spain, Italy, and Romania and involving five youth exchanges. In addition, EYP’s in house publication Orange Magazine organised two international youth exchanges in Germany in 2025 focusing on collaborative journalism and cross border reporting. The organisation also contributes to European youth participation and policy dialogue. EYP is a full member of the European Youth Forum, where it represents youth media perspectives within European youth policy discussions. It has also participated in consortium initiatives such as YouthMetre, focusing on youth participation and advocacy. Within its network, EYP organises the Forum of Member Organisations (FOMO), an annual gathering focused on skills development and collaboration among youth media organisations. Recent editions have addressed themes such as artificial intelligence in journalism (Warsaw, 2023), inclusion in media production (Bratislava, 2024), and constructive dialogue and inclusive storytelling across Europe (Berlin, 2025). EYP also contributes to innovative digital media initiatives such as Pulse Z, launched in 2024 with EU support to create a digital media platform and learning environment for young journalists and content creators across Europe. Across all its activities, EYP promotes independent journalism, media integrity, diversity, democratic participation, and youth empowerment. Through education, collaboration, and advocacy, the organisation works to strengthen a vibrant and inclusive European media landscape in which young voices play an active role.
