EU Legislative Interests

The European Union Copper Task Force’s activities at EU level are carried out within the framework of existing EU legislation governing plant protection products and pesticide residues. In particular, the Task Force’s monitoring and engagement activities primarily relate to: Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, which governs the approval of active substances and the authorisation of plant protection products in the European Union; and Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, which establishes maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticide residues in food and feed. Within this legal framework, the Copper Task Force follows legislative and regulatory developments, contributes scientific and technical information in the context of active substance approval and renewal procedures, and engages with EU institutions and Member State authorities where appropriate. Its activities are therefore limited to regulatory matters concerning the evaluation, approval, renewal and residue setting for copper compounds used as active substances in plant protection products, in accordance with the applicable EU legislation.
