Mission & Goals

The European Travel Commission (ETC) represents the national tourism organisations of Europe. Its members work together to build the value of tourism across diverse European destinations through cooperation in best-practice sharing, market intelligence, advocacy and promotion. The organisation represents national tourism boards from 34 European countries, including 26 EU Member States. ETC strives to position Europe as the most competitive, sustainable, and inclusive travel destination by 2030.

Communication Activities

“Tourism for Europe, Europe for Tourism” Exhibition at the European Parliament On 26-30 January 2026, the European Travel Commission organised an exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels entitled “Tourism for Europe, Europe for Tourism”. The exhibition was hosted by the Members of the European Parliament – Daniel Attard (S&D, Malta) and Nikolina Brnjac (EPP, Croatia). The exhibition showcased 35 best-practice examples of regenerative tourism from across Europe, spotlighting the power of tourism to support communities, restore nature, and advance long-term economic and social growth. The exhibition was officially opened by the hosting MEPs and the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas. The opening ceremony also included representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and Member States. White Paper “A Destination’s Guide to the New EU Sustainability Regulations” In May 2025, the European Travel Commission (ETC) and the Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement) released a white paper, “A Destination’s Guide to the New EU Sustainability Regulations”. This guide aims to help Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) and National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) navigate upcoming EU regulatory changes. The white paper focuses on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGTD), and the Green Claims Directive (GCD).
