Mission & Goals

ETSC is the sole European NGO dedicated to improving the safety of all transport modes. It provides an impartial source of research-based advice on transport safety matters to the European Commission, the European Parliament, and to national governments and organisations concerned with transport safety throughout Europe. It seeks to identify, evaluate and promote effective measures on the basis of international research findings, good evidence and best practice, in areas which offer the greatest potential for a reduction in transport crashes and casualties. The positions of ETSC, its contribution to the international community of safety experts and its research-based policy-advice for European policy-makers are generated by the work of more than 200 experts.

EU Legislative Interests

Transport safety (Driving Licence Directive, Roadworthiness package, EU Budget, EU-US Trade and Vehicle Safety Standards, General Safety Regulation, Infrastructure Safety Directive, Autonomous Driving, Road Safety Action Programme)

Communication Activities

Apart from policy and advocacy work, ETSC's activities are structured according to a number of projects: the Road Safety Performance Index (ranking member states on the basis of their road sfaety performance), the EU Road Safety Exchange (on exchange of best practices between member states), Safe & Sober and SMART (on drink driving), the Drug Driving Project and the LEARN! Project on road safety education. ETSC organises several events every year (on line or in person) on topics such a general road safety policies, drink driving, drug driving, speed and road safety education. Several publications are published every year in the framework of the above mentioned projects.
