Mission & Goals
EREF is the EU level umbrella organization of national renewable energy associations from EU Member States gathering information from independent renewable energy producers from all renewable energy technologies except large hydropower. EREF acts as information hub on renewable energy policies and developments between EU and national levels informing about the feasibility and advantages of a European energy system based only on renewable energy and energy efficiency. EREF monitors and informs its members about EU legislation (processes) concerning renewable energy and analyses relevant EU legislation and its impact on national renewable energy development processes in cooperation with its members. EREF also promotes exchange of expertise and mutual support among its members. Upon invitation, EREF provides its recommendations and best-practice examples to European decision-makers.

Development of relevant EU Energy legislation and its transposition in national law of EU Member states EU State Aid Guidelines Transposition of Renewable Energy Directive III, the Water Framework Directive and the Nature Restoration Regulation
Communication Activities
EREF is partner in the EU projects IANOS, SKILL BILL, RESCHOOL, INSIEME and ETIP Hydropower.

Member Of
EREF is a founding member of IRENA’s multi-stakeholder Coalition for Action and the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions. The federation is member of the Renewable Energy Industry Advisory Board (RIAB) of the IEA (International Energy Agency). EREF is also a member of REN21 (the global renewable energy policy multi-stakeholder network) and its Steering Committee; the Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform, and ECEEE (the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy).
Organisation Members
By the end of October 2025, EREF has 37 members. EREF's membership is composed of national renewable energy umbrella and sector associations. Regardless of its size, each member has one vote in the EREF's governance bodies. Renewable energy companies are supporting members and do not have voting rights.
