Mission & Goals

EUREGHA is a Brussels-based network of 27 regional and local health authorities and organisations working on regional and local issues, covering more than 14 European countries. EUREGHA aims to promote collaboration amongst regions and local authorities, in Europe, within the framework of policies relating to public health and health care. EUREGHA also cooperates with the EU Institutions and with international and public organizations related to public health and health care. EUREGHA’s vision is to ensure that the voice of local and regional health and social care authorities is represented in the EU health policy. The importance of local and regional health authorities is central, as they represent the natural interface between citizens and national and European institutions. They exert a pivotal role in improving the innovation, sustainability, efficiency and quality of health care systems and services, also in time of emergency – as demonstrated during the COVID-19 crisis.

Communication Activities

EUREGHA is regularly active in communication activities related to different EU policies. Our most recent and ongoing campaign (2023-2024) is based on our Manifesto published in 2023: 'A EUREGHA MANIFESTO FOR 2024 AND BEYOND: Building the future of European health and care with regional and local health authorities at the centre'. The manifesto (https://www.euregha.net/a-euregha-manifesto-for-2024-and-beyond/) was presented in December 2023 during a public high-level conference with participation of representatives from European Commission, European Parliament and European Committee of the Regions, and will lead EUREGHA's engagement during the new EU mandate. The Manifesto revolves around the following pillars, from the point of view of Regional and Local Health Authorities: 1) Towards a stronger European Health Union; 2) Address healthcare workforce’s skills and shortages; 3) Changing health through Regions: digital, green and organisational transition; 4) Stronger action on prevention, promotion and public health; 5) Boost synergetic EU funding programmes; 6) Cross-border cooperation at the centre; 7) Towards the value-based transition. Furthermore, EUREGHA currently participates, mostly with stakeholder engagement, policy and communication in the BOOST, PERISCOPE, ONCODIR and INNOFACILITATOR projects, all receive funding under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. EUREGHA also participates in the BeWell project, funded under Erasmus+, for which leads the work on the European Commission's Pact for Skills: Large-scale Partnership for the Health Ecosystem. Furthermore, EUREGHA supports the EU tender 'Overcoming obstacles to Vaccination'. More info on our projects can be found here: https://www.euregha.net/projects/ EUREGHA also organises a yearly conference promoting the network's activities in the abovementioned EU policy areas and regularly organises sessions during the European Week of Regions and Cities.
