Mission & Goals
The European Paper Packaging Alliance is a not-for-profit association for food and food service packaging. Our priorities are to find concrete solutions to increase recycling and reduce carbon emissions of food and food service packaging without compromising food safety and human health protection. Communication Activities
EPPA has commissioned the ISO-certified and third-party-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies to ensure that the information provided through our advocacy is fact-based, constructive, and fully compliant with EU rules and norms. These studies have been the primary material used in our meetings with European Commission officials, Members of the European Parliament, the secretariat of the European Parliament Party groups, and Council representatives. They are also made public on our website, with explanatory Q&A and industry data. The findings of these studies also form the basis of our communications activities. Our main communication channels are LinkedIn and X, through which we share industry facts and figures. We have also created two short videos highlighting the benefits of fiber-based packaging. During the PPWR legislative procedure, we organized one event in which we invited key stakeholders to the file. An agency has supported EPPA with its global communication activities at the EU level, addressing the general public, EPPA members and prospective members, and representatives of EU institutions in fulfilling its mission as a non-profit association. The Agency has advised us on a timely, constructive, and engaging communication strategy based on fine-tuning a messaging previously decided internally within EPPA. The communication strategy entailed: 1) Work has focused on external communications, mainly through our social media channels, X and LinkedIn, and our website, www.eppa-eu.org, by producing imagery, videos, and textual content. The content was based on conferences we attended, data from our research, and policy priorities we provided, which they adapted to suit strategic communication purposes better 2) They provided us with media monitoring services and support with media relations, for instance, advising which journalists to contact or whether to proceed with paid partnerships; they have helped prepare our staff for media interviews. 3) They supported EPPA with events, but only through messaging and promotional activities on social media communications. EPPA has also provided op-ed content on the previously mentioned legislative files for several publications, such as Politico and Euractiv.
