Mission & Goals
EOPSA’s mission is to bring together key onshore power supply players in order to promote innovation, speed up installations, advocate for global solutions and reciprocal adoption along shipping routes. EOPSA communicates, shares best practices and ensures close collaboration and coordination between all its members and key stakeholders. Onshore power supply is also known as Cold Ironing, Shore-Side Electricity, Shore Connection, Alternative power supply.
EU Legislative Interests
EOPSA will be working with the EU around AFIR, Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive, in particular: Articles 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 19, Annex II: 4.2 and 4.2 etc. referring to : Onshore power supply is defined as “shore-side electricity”. Electricity for OPS is defined as “alternative fuel for zero-emission vehicle”. AFIR and OPS installation + national inclusion. The revision of AFIR; Use of Renewable and Low-Carbon Fuels in Maritime Transport Articles 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 14, 20, annexes III and IV referring to: The initiative emphasizes the deployment of OPS in the member states, elaborating from AFIR. FuelEU maritime rather gives a push on the shipowner side. Types of vessels (Passenger and container ships) Deadline 1st January 2030 Penalty DG Move's Port Strategy. EOPSA' position is as follows: EOPSA, European Onshore Power Supply Association will be working with EU and national decision makers to: Faster Implementation of OPS across all European ports Reciprocity, ensuring marine operators are served all along their shipping routes Promote clarity of funding and funding origin Ensure the entire OPS value chain works together to reach EU goals Promote innovation & standardisation
