Mission & Goals
ENWAD (European Network for Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Racism Work) is a Barcelona-based human rights network composed of 20 grassroots organisations across 8 EU countries. The network works at the intersection of racial justice, gender equality, civil liberties, youth empowerment, social innovation and the fight against discrimination and hate speech. ENWAD connects grassroots realities with European and international human rights frameworks, contributing applied knowledge from frontline work with racialised communities, particularly women and young people affected by structural inequalities. Core areas of expertise and contribution • Antiracist and intersectional public policy development and evaluation • Gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in racialised communities • Youth participation, leadership and prevention of exclusion and discrimination • Social innovation approaches to community-based inclusion and rights protection • Prevention of hate speech and inst.
EU Legislative Interests
ENWAD engages with EU policies and initiatives related to equality, non-discrimination, anti-racism, and gender justice. This includes the EU Anti-Racism Strategy (2020–2025 and its forthcoming 2026–2030 framework), the EU Gender Equality Strategy, and broader EU legislation and policy frameworks on combating racism, xenophobia, and intersecting forms of discrimination under Article 19 TFEU and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. The organisation also follows EU civil society, inclusion, and fundamental rights policies relevant to women of African descent and racialised communities in Europe.
Communication Activities
ENWAD conducts communication and advocacy activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting dialogue on equality, anti-racism, and gender justice within the European context. These include participation in conferences, civil society forums, and policy consultations at EU and national level; organisation of awareness-raising events and roundtables on the experiences of women of African descent in Europe; and contribution to collaborative campaigns addressing racism, intersectional discrimination, and inclusion. The organisation also disseminates information and policy analysis through reports, statements, and digital communications to highlight gaps and recommendations related to EU anti-racism and gender equality policies.

Member Of
ENWAD is a member of the Catalan National Women’s Council (Consell Nacional de les Dones de Catalunya), contributing to regional policy dialogue on gender equality and women’s rights. The organisation is also part of international civil society coalitions working on the rights of people of African descent, including participation in the International Coalition on People of African Descent, focusing on racial justice, equality, and the implementation of international human rights frameworks. ENWAD further engages with European and international civil society spaces, including participation in the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, contributing to global discussions on anti-racism and equality.
