Mission & Goals

This network of higher education institutions develops collective innovative thinking on how higher education can drive innovation. The aims of ENIHEI are: • To exchange knowledge, ideas and experiences on how higher education can promote an innovation culture, and enable creativity, entrepreneurship and talent. • To develop ideas and offer recommendations on how to advance the innovation relevant actions. • To support the European higher education system to be up to the challenge of establishing Europe as a global leader in the next wave of innovation • To produce recommendations reports that can serve as a foundation for further works by the European Commission, EU Member States and other parties.

ENIHEI's work focuses primarily on two EU policies: - New European Innovation Agenda (NEIA) - European strategy for universities

Member Of

ENIHEI does not belong to other associations, (con)federations, networks or other organizations. Individually, ts members form part of university alliances, associations such as the European Universities Association (EUA) and their respective National Rectors' Conferences.

Organisation Members

The network is made up of higher education institutions designated by the European Commission for their outstanding performance in some area of the European innovation ecosystem. Twenty-eight of them were nominated by the governments of the Member States and the rest were appointed directly by the European Commission from among the members of the university alliances. The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, at that moment Mariya Gabriel, announced the network at the first European Education and Innovation Summit, in June 2022. Additional Information

The member institution that becomes the Secretariat of the network assumes the expenses generated by the Secretariat and serves as the official address of ENIHEI during their tenure. The University of Salamanca was appointed in July 2022 as the first Secretariat of ENIHEI by the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, at that moment, Mariya Gabriel.
