Mission & Goals
European Metals is the organisation set up by the European non-ferrous metals industry to serve its members in matters related to EU and international legislation development and implementation. In case of necessity, it represents its interest in EU and international related activities. Through environmental and technical expertise, economic analysis, scientific research, sharing of best practices, public affairs and communication activities, it aims to promote metals' contribution to sustainable development, facilitate members' understanding and implementation of EU legislation (for example REACH) and convey the views of the sector to EU and international institutions in matters of relevance to the industry.

Main Focus on: Policy developments concerning Environment, Health, Energy, Climate Change, Sustainability, Trade, Industrial Policy, Raw Materials Targeted proposals/policies: • REACH Regulation (EC No 1907/2006) and ongoing revision proposals • CLP Regulation (EC No 1272/2008) on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment • End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (COM(2023)451) revision proposal • Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) and related Circular Economy legislative package • Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU) and its revision proposals • EU Emissions Trading System (Directive 2003/87/EC) and related climate legislation under the Fit for 55 package • Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (Regulation (EU) 2023/956) implementation measures • Critical Raw Materials Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1252) and related raw materials initiatives • Sustainable Products Initiative / Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR, COM(2022)142) • EU Green Deal policies relevant to industry decarbonisation and circularity • EU Trade Policy, including Free Trade Agreements affecting non-ferrous metals • Industrial and Competitiveness Policy including the Clean Industrial Deal, the Industrial Accelerator Act, Steel and Metals Action Plan.
