Mission & Goals
The European Gulf of Guinea Investment Council (EGGIC) promotes trade, investment, and institutional cooperation between Europe, the countries in the Gulf of Guinea region, and those that are part of the Yaounde Architecture by collaborating with governments, public institutions, embassies, consulates, chambers of commerce, trade and investment agencies, business groups and any other relevant stakeholder. The mission of the EGGIC is to foster stronger diplomatic and economic relations between Europe and the countries of the Gulf of Guinea region promoting closer institutional, business and organisational cooperation to solve common challenges while advancing complementary strategic interests, needs and capabilities.
EU Legislative Interests
An EU initiative to grant support to the Gulf of Guinea countries, the Yaounde Architecture, and its population in the areas of innovation, research, structural funds, maritime security, competition policy, trade negotiations, energy union, economic governance, internal market, defence, external action; Influencing specific legislation between the EU and the Gulf of Guinea countries such as the Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement (SIFA) between the EU and Angola, the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance, and Trade (FLEGT) between the EU and Cameroon and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement (SFPA) between the EU and Gabon; Influencing the full and correct implementation of the EU-Gulf of Guinea Strategy and Action Plan and monitoring the subsequent outcomes and legislation; Influencing the policymakers to make sure the EU Security and Defence Initiative in the Gulf of Guinea adheres to a principled approach, ensuring the strategy effectiveness and delivery process; Legislation deriving from the EU-Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) Cooperation Agreement and the application of its Protocols; The implementation of the EU support to the Yaounde Architecture, a regional consultation mechanism, to coordinate efforts in the fight against illegal activities in the Gulf of Guinea; Influencing the EU-Gulf of Guinea Partnership in the areas of security, defence, economic cooperation and international cooperation; The EU Development Assistance actions and legislation for the Gulf of Guinea region and individual countries.
Communication Activities
Regulatory explainers: EGGIC will track and post explainers of EU policies regarding individual Gulf of Guinea countries and, more widely, the Gulf of Guinea region. Conceptual analysis: EGGIC will post explainers of policy concepts, including advocating for policymakers to consider emerging issues. Events: EGGIC plans to attend and track panels and conferences taking place across the EU, concerning the Gulf of Guinea region and related EU foreign policy topics, also partnering with local organisers. Lobbying: EGGIC will advise policymakers from the European Commission, European Parliament, and EU Council on Gulf of Guinea related policies, including for the EU Council decisions, the EU-Gulf of Guinea Strategy and Action Plan, the EU-Gulf of Guinea Commission Cooperation Agreement, the EU-Gulf of Guinea Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements, the EU Coordinated Maritime Presences and Parliament's own-initiative reports on the Gulf of Guinea through the Delegation to the Africa-EU Parliamentary Assembly (DAFR) and the Delegation to the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (DACP) urging the EU to recognise the growing importance and risks in the Gulf of Guinea region.

Organisation Members
The membership of the organisation is of a mixed public-private nature. We act on behalf of public authorities as well as private organisations. The public members are countries of the Gulf of Guinea regional organisations: Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC); Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA); Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS); Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). The private members are companies that are part of a national or regional Chamber of Commerce based in each of the countries of the Gulf of Guinea region: Movicel; Grupo Opaia; Cocoa Processing Company.
