Mission & Goals
European Grandparents for Climate (EGC) is a federation of national organizations of grandparents and senior citizens campaigning for the climate. EGC’s activities focus on politics and policy, on raising public awareness of climate issues, and on strengthening the EGC community. With regard to politics and policy, the aim is to bring the actions of national organizations to the European level. The Board regularly sends open letters, position statements and appeals to the European Commission and to MEPs. EGC also takes part in national events and demonstrations. EGC’s member organizations carry out – often through local groups – national, regional and local campaigns, aimed at politicians, but also at influencing public opinion and citizens’ behaviour. There is strong support for youth organizations and campaigns for the climate. The European umbrella organization reinforces this through the exchange of knowledge, insights and innovative practices.
EU Legislative Interests
Different aspects of the European Green Deal, more in particular The European Climate Law, the EU Adaptation Strategy and the Omnibus Simplification Package.
Communication Activities
Some recent examples: We wrote several Open Letters to the President of the Commission and several Commissioners: - Call for an EU-wide mechanism on windfall profits by the fossil fuel industry - April 2026; - Our opinion on the new European Arctic Policy - March 2026; - Concern Regarding the Reversal of the Combustion Engine Phase-Out - February 2026; - European Grandparents for Climate call on the European Commission to refrain from harmful Omnibus processes - December 2025. We demonstrated: - We stood in front of Alden Biesen where European leaders met, demanding not to weaken the Green Deal - February 2026; - On 31st of May 2024 our members blew a whistle in front of national parliaments as Wake Up call for the 2024 European Elections. Our members were present: - At COP 30 and delivered a Letter to EU leaders; - At the First Conference on Transitioning away from Fossil Fuels in Santa Marta, Colombia with a Statement of EGC.
