Mission & Goals

The mission of the European Financial Planning Association is to set, promote and implement high quality standards for competence and ethical behavior for the financial advisory sector throughout Europe, benefiting the profession, financial firms and clients. EFPA offers the European Investment Assistant (EIA), European Investment Practitioner (EIP), European Financial Advisor (EFA) and European Financial Planner (EFP) as well as EFPA ESG Advisor professional certifications as the best recognized, respected and highest quality designations available in Europe: we will continue to provide the full range of financial advisory professional education programs, continuous development programs and other services relevant to the Association’s members and the sector’s needs. Our vision is that each and every client will be able to benefit from competent, reliable and transparent advice from trusted, certified financial advisers and planners in Europe and beyond.

Communication Activities

EFPA is a professional accreditation and certification body for financial advisors and financial planners. Also, EFPA awards several professional certifications, subject to a regular update through continuous professional development all over Europe. As a professional body, EFPA organizes events at local and European level for financial advisors and financial planners. On July 2015, EFPA produced the Voice of the Market report (link), consisting of research and analysis to capture the expectations, preferences and aversions of selected [key opinion] leaders and decision- makers. On September 2015, EFPA held a press conference with Mr. Markus Ferber (MP), Mr. Wim Mijs (EBF) and Mr. David Wright (IOSCO) to debate the outcome of the Voice of the Market report and lead the debate on the implementation of the investor protection on the framework of MiFID II. In 2023, EFPA updated its periodical report ¨Improving Qualifications for Financial Advisors in EU: Policy Proposals¨ studying the degree of implementation of MiFID II and IDD across EU countries. On 6 June 2023, EFPA presented the above report during a stakeholders meeting in Paris. EFPA participated in the Roundtable for Distribution of retail investment products organised by the EC on 18.7.2023 and is currently part of the industry-led working group. In 2024, EFPA continued its participation in the industry-led working group on RIS. It also sent a Letter to DG Fisma regarding a Savings and Investments Union. EFPA submitted its contributions to the following public consultations in 2024: Targeted consultation on artificial intelligence in the financial sector (September, 2024) EFPA submitted its contributions to the following public consultations in 2025: EC public consultation on SIU ESMA call for evidence on the Retail Investor Journey
