Mission & Goals
The European Federation of Data Protection Officers (EFDPO) is an umbrella association that is focused on the concerns and interests of data protection officers and other professionals in the field of data protection. Our members are national associations which aim to create a strong voice for our profession in Brussels that is recognised as a partner at eye level by European institutions such as the Commission, the Parliament and the Council, the European Data Protection Board as well as national supervisory authorities. In doing so, we aim to strengthen data protection as a competitive and locational advantage for Europe.
EU Legislative Interests
The EFDPO closely monitors legislative initiatives and strategies related to data protection and fundamental rights, including the evaluation/reform of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the ePrivacy Regulation, the regulation of Artificial Intelligence, the Data Governance Act and Data Act, as well as initiatives under the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. The aim is to represent the voice of Data Protection Officers in the European legislative process and to promote a practical and legally sound implementation of data protection requirements.
Communication Activities
The EFDPO engages in a range of communication activities to contribute to the European policy debate on data protection. These include the organization of expert conferences, roundtables, and webinars with EU policymakers, supervisory authorities, and stakeholders. The federation regularly publishes position papers, statements, and consultation responses on relevant legislative proposals. EFDPO representatives also participate in public hearings and expert panels to ensure the practical perspectives of Data Protection Officers are reflected in the EU legislative process.
