Mission & Goals
The purpose of this Association is to uphold and promote the highest standards of fact-checking and promote media literacy for the public benefit. The Association and its members are committed to upholding the principles of freedom of expression. They will work to promote the public’s access to fact-checked trustworthy data and information and to educate the public in how to assess the veracity of information in the public sphere.
EU Legislative Interests
EFCSN is interested in any policies or regulations "relevant to the mission of fact-checking and are compatible with a reputation for independence and impartiality". The organization has an interest in the implementation of the Digital Services Act and related codes of conduct, the proposal for a European Media Freedom Act, the Artificial Intelligence Act, the European Action Plan for Democracy, the European Democracy Shield, and the Multiannual Financial Framework.
Communication Activities
The association regularly publishes assessments of some very large online platforms and search engines implementation of the Code of Conduct on Disinformation in the context of DSA, available in the EFCSN.com/news website. Along with EDMO and The European Parliament, it co-hosted the conference "Democracy matters. Facts matter." in the Parliament premises in March 2024.
