Mission & Goals

The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) is a membership-based, non-profit association, constituting the largest low-carbon energy research community in Europe and a key player in the European Union's Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan, as its reserach pillar. It was established in 2008 by leading research institutes to expand and optimise EU energy research capabilities. Today it brings together more than 250 organisations from 31 countries. EERA pursues the mission of catalysing European energy research for a climate-neutral society by 2050. - Help streamline regional, national and European research efforts - Deliver research results from basic research to the demonstration phase (TRLs 2 to 5) and ensure efficient transfer to industry and market.

EU Legislative Interests

The efforts of the Association take place in the context of and contribute to the targets formulated in the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan of the European Commission, which is also part of the EU Energy Union strategy. Horizon Europe and future FP10, European Partnerships, Clean Energy Transition, European Green Deal, Net-Zero IndustryAct, Sustainable Europe Investment Plan, Innovation Fund, NECPs assessment, Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI), Sustainable Finance, Mission Innovation.

Communication Activities

EERA is one of the actors involved in the governance of the EC SET Plan Specific H2020/HEU projects in which EERA participates: StoRIES SSH Centre SET IndEU MACE (COST Action) RISEnergy Events: EUSEW, R&I days, EU R&I and Energy Policy events at the EP, SET Plan conferences. Publications: "10 recommendations for EU competitiveness and Strategic Autonomy: The central role of low-carbon energy research & innovation, 2024"; "EERA Critical Raw Materials Policy Analysis, 2023"; "EERA Flagship report on Energy Demand Reduction 2023"; "EERA Manifesto on REPowerEU, 2022"; "White Paper for Clean Energy Transition, 2021".
