Mission & Goals
ECNAIS is a non-political, non-confessional, international association for collaboration between national associations of independent schools in European countries. ECNAIS Supports and pursues the values embedded in a democratic approach to pluralism in the national educational systems, and the respect of parental choice. PROMOTES Independent education, confessional and lay, whose principles conform to those set out in the Universal Declaration of Human rights. DEVELOPS political statements that promote the understanding of the values of the independent sector, and improve their acceptance and financial support in national legislation. TARGETS policy makers at an international level by representing the Independent sector at the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, The Commission of the European Union and other international organisations, on matters of common concern, based on an agreed programme. Contributes to the development of the European education Area

Communication Activities
We co-organised a public hearing “CONTRIBUTION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS TO ENGAGEMENT, WELL-BEING AND ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL”, with MEPs from EPP and S&D Groups (European Parliament - May 31st, 2023) We worked closely with the NGO OIDEL and some MEP to set up an intergroup on educational pluralism (unsuccessfully) (2019). Our chairman participated in the Second European Education Summit hosted by Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (September 2019) We worked closely with MEPs contributing to the European Parliament resolution of 12 June 2018 on modernisation of education in the EU (2017/2224(INI)) We co-organised a public hearing “Freedom of Education, a Cornerstone of The Modernization of European Education”, with MEPs from ECR, EPP and S&D Groups (European Parliament - February 2019) We participated in the organization of a Seminar at the EP on the implementation of the European Parliament resolution of 12 June 2018 on modernisation of education in the EU (2017/2224(INI)) together with some MEP (ECR and PPE group) and the NGO OIDEL (European Parliament - January 2019). We were present at the First European Education Summit hosted by Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (January 2018) We participated in the seminar on the Modernisation of Education in the EU, organized by MEP Krystyna Łybacka at the EP (November 2017) We co-organised a public hearing “Right to Education: Freedom of parental Choice. School autonomy and school values; religion, pedagogical concepts and philosophical approaches” with MEPs from the EPP Group and the ECR group (European Parliament - January 2017) We co-organised a public hearing “Right to education: freedom of parental choice” with MEP from the EPP Group and the ECR group (European Parliament - January 2016)
