Mission & Goals

ECSA’s main aim is to defend and promote the rights and interests of composers and songwriters at national, European and international level. The Alliance's goals include: - reinforce the perception of cultural and economic value of music in Europe and the world; - encourage European and international policy makers and regulators to support the creation of new and diverse music; - defend and promote the development of authors’ rights, copyright, and fair remuneration and defend the collective management of authors’ rights; - improve inclusiveness and diversity, including the conditions and advancement of women and non-binary composers and songwriters in the music industry; - support policies for a more sustainable music sector and measures to reduce the environmental impact of music industry practices; - support fair working conditions for all composers and songwriters to promote social and economic development of music creation in Europe.

EU Legislative Interests

The main EU initiatives followed by ECSA are proposals and policies related to authors' rights/copyright, as well as policies related to the music sector and, more broadly, the cultural and creative sectors. ECSA remains active in stakeholder consultations and professional meetings organised by the European Commission (particularly DG CNECT and DG EAC) and in the European Parliament (particularly in the CULT, JURI and IMCO Committees). ECSA has been very much involved in the EU 2019 CDSM Directive and in all discussions related to the fair remuneration of authors.
