Mission & Goals

The European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE) is an umbrella organisation of currently 19 animal protection, anti-vivisection and scientific organisations across Europe. Its goal is to end animal experiments in Europe on ethical and scientific grounds. The ECEAE has stakeholder status with various official EU bodies which intersect with animal experiments. The ECEAE works with the European Commision, MEPs and the public to ensure that the topic of animals experiments is on the European political agenda.

EU Legislative Interests

We are actively continuously monitoring: - Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purpose and its transposition in national laws - REACH (Regulation 2006/1907/EC concerning the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) and its ongoing impact on animal testing - Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on cosmetic products - European Pharmacopoeia - The development and use of alternatives to animals used in testing, research and education

Communication Activities

Other activities: - Following the European Citizens' Initiative 'Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics - Commit to a Europe without animal testing' we are working with the European Commission on a roadmap to phase out animal testing for the safety assessment of chemicals - Awarding a Prize for Animal-Free Antibodies - Awarding a travel grant for the Microphysiological Systems (MPS) World Summit - Public campaigning on topics such as phasing out animal experiments, botox animal tests, animal-free research, animal-free production of antibodies, the use of non-human primates in experiments.
