Mission & Goals
EBCA is the collective voice of more than 75 global apparel brands. The sector supports more than 4.5 million jobs in the EU. We envision a Europe where the branded clothing sector contributes to shared prosperity and is supported by global standards that enhance sustainability and trade, creating a level playing field. EBCA’s mission is to create a fair and thriving landscape where clothing brands and retailers can compete on a level playing field while meeting higher global standards on sustainability and trade. The association promotes the simplification, harmonisation, and digitalisation of EU rules to cut administrative burdens and boost competitiveness.
EU Legislative Interests
As a coalition of European retail clothing brands with both a European and global presence, EBCA’s main activities focus on ensuring an open trade agenda and fair market access at both bilateral and multilateral levels. As a consequence, the subject matter of EBCA’s outreach efforts consists of the following: • Harmonised and impact-driven sustainability requirements • Free, fair and sustainable trade; • Ambitious yet feasible due diligence and sustainable corporate governance frameworks; • Robust trade agreements with third countries; • Simplified Rules of Origin during the negotiation of free trade agreements; • A well-functioning multilateral trading system; • Market access for European companies in third countries; • Trade facilitation through the harmonization of customs procedures in each member state, including the UK post-Brexit; • Effective protection of intellectual property rules; • An efficient, equitable and user-friendly customs-valuation system. In concrete terms, we are active on Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulation Waste Framework Directive Waste Shipment Directive Omnibus VIII (environmental omnibus) Product Act (Market Surveillance Regulation, New Legislative Framework) Free Trade Agreements General System of Preferences Union Customs Code Reform Single Market Strategy and support to TRIS notification.
