Mission & Goals

EAPIL is a (purely non-profit) academic organization that aims to connect European scholars and practitioners and to work towards a pan-European discourse about European private international law (cross-border judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters, cf Art. 81 TFEU).

EU Legislative Interests

The Association targets EU legislative proposals and policies relating to European private international law (cross-border judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters, cf Art. 81 TFEU).

Communication Activities

The Association (a) engages in, or endorses, research projects and scientific events and promotes the dissemination of their outcome; (b) fosters the exchange of information and experiences between the members of the Association and the dialogue between academia, legal practice and the public at large; (c) cooperates, as an independent body, with national, European and international legislative bodies concerning the elaboration or revision of texts in the field of private international law; (d) edits a scientific journal and publish reports and studies.

Organisation Members

The Association has (currently) 600 members from more than 70 countries. Members are for the most part associated/affiliated with academic institutions (universities or other teaching/research institutions), some are practitioners.

Additional Information

As a purely academic Association, EAPIL only lives from the contributions of its members. These are spent on the running of its day-to-day business (e.g. mainting the website) as well as its activities (e.g. workshops).
