Mission & Goals

To prevent and detect terrorist and criminal activity affecting the international transportation of passengers and cargo. • To study and recommend methods and uniform practices for establishing safeguards against loss of property in transit. • To encourage and develop the exchange of information and experience among Law Enforcement Agencies countering criminal activities at airports and seaports. • To encourage cooperation between elements of the international trade community for the development of improved security measures for international cargo. • To become a more inclusive and integrated body within Europe whilst seeking to develop a strategic platform from whence the Association can be increasingly influential over the Security and Transport policies affecting Europe.

EU Legislative Interests

EAASP is periodically represented on the Advisory Board of research projects. We recently finished engaged with the - Horizon 2020 - SAURON – (Scalable multidimensionAl sitUation awaReness sOlution for protectiNg european ports) project which concluded in December 2020. Where aligned with our objectives as practitioners we are also consider participation as a project partner. When appropriate, EAASP contributes to SAGAS and SAGMAS meetings held by DG Move (see below). Partner of SAFETRAVELLERS: Secure and Frictionless Identity for EU and Third Country National Citizens, co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme under contract no. 10112169.

Communication Activities

The EAASP regularly communicates with its membership and also usually holds an annual conference in one of the Member States, drawing in member from across the EU. The annual conference did not taken place in 2020 or 2021 due to travel restrictions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. EAASP is part of a Horizon 3-year Europe research project named SafeTravellers, started in 2024. Safetravellers proposes a new way of citizen identification based on multiple biometrics and an enhancement of the current way of identity verification at the borders with a set of tools that will detect attacks at the biometric hardware, identity and travel document fraud and attempts to falsify biometrics.
