Mission & Goals
Established in 1986, EASO is a federation of 40 National Obesity Associations from across the European region. In official relations with WHO EURO, EASO is the voice of European obesity professionals, representing a community of over 20,000 scientists, academics, health care practitioners, physicians, public health experts, early career researchers and students. EASO Mission: To improve health outcomes across society, EASO empowers, advocates and educates to research, prevent, diagnose, treat and manage the chronic disease of obesity along the life course. EASO Vision: Identifying and solving the challenges of obesity through collaborative action with multidisciplinary stakeholders underpinned by a strong scientific understanding. The Objectives of EASO are: - To establish obesity as chronic relapsing disease - To develop evolving evidence-based approaches for preventing and treating obesity across the lifespan - To promote effective solutions through research, education and policy.
EU Legislative Interests
EASO co-hosted a policy event with MEP Castillo in the European Parliament on 4 March 2025. EASO is interested in integrating obesity into several policy areas, including health (with an interest in the activities of the Beating Cancer Plan, the forthcoming CVD Plan and the actions of SANT).
Communication Activities
Dissemination partner in ongoing EU projects INTERACT, TIMESPAN, OBCT, STAGE, PREVENT, BIOSTREAMS, BETTER4Uand SOPHIA (IMI). Recent partner in projects PROTEIN, SWEET, NoHoW, MooDFOOD, DORIAN and Spotlight. Organiser of the annual European Congress on Obesity (ECO) and World Obesity Day Europe. Coordinator of network of specialist multidisciplinary treatment centres. EASO publishes position statements and guidelines in Obesity Facts (OFA), see http://easo.org/education-portal/guidelines/ and other relevant medical journals. Member of EU Health Coalition and Biomed Alliance. EASO is in Official Relations with WHO EURO. The organisation provides the secretariat to the informal SIG MEPs for Action on Obesity, launched on 4 November 2025 and hosted by Romana Jerkovic.

EASO employs a small core team and outsources services on a project basis. This limits financial liability on the charity and maintains flexibility. Outsourced services include website maintenance, communications/PR (WOD), congress management.
