Mission & Goals
EuropeActive is the member-based leading non-profit organisation representing the European fitness and physical activity sector, which served 71,6 million consumers, generated EUR 36 billion in revenue, and consisted of +64 000 facilities in 2024. Beyond its economic contribution, the sector is committed to become a trusted public health partner, a mission EuropeActive’s members have entrusted it with, in sight of getting ‘more people, more active, more often’ and of promoting healthy lifestyles within the EU and international institutions. Established in 2008, its broad membership ranges from national associations, operators, suppliers, training providers to accreditation institutions. A standard setting body for the sector’s people and places for the past 18 years, EuropeActive has worked extensively to align them the European Qualification Framework (EQF).
EU Legislative Interests
EuropeActive actively works to protect and promote the fitness and physical activity sector by participating in a variety of working and expert groups organised by European Institutions, or the World Health Organization through the dialogue with the sport and physical activity related industry associations on the implementation of the GAPPA. EuropeActive focuses on the following EU legislative developments: - EU Sport policy: EU Work Plans for Sport; European Sport Model; Health-Enhancing Physical Activity; Cross-sectoral collaboration for healthy lifestyles, Anti-Doping; European Week of Sport; etc - EU Health policy: Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan; EU Cardiovascular Health Plan; etc. - Relevant EU programme funding: EU’s next long-term budget (MFF) - Employment and Social Rights: Pact for Skills
Communication Activities
EuropeActive is currently coordinating the following EU-funded projects: #BEACTIVE DAY; and Healthy Lifestyle 4 Europe. EuropeActive currently holds two flagship initiatives: - the annual #BEACTIVE DAY campaign, our sector’s contribution to the European Commission European Week of Sport (EWoS), of which we have been an official partner since its start in 2015. Launched in 2021, our campaign offers thousands of free events and activities to the general public by mobilising our stakeholders across the continent. - As the sector shifts the conversation from fitness to health and advocates for physical activity to become a recognised, proven and cost-effective tool for public health, the Exercise for Health Summit is our policy-focused event seeking to bridge the gap between European sport and health policy, creating a platform for structured dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration. By aligning efforts, improving skills, and leveraging data-driven insights, together we can build a healthier, more active Europe.
