Mission & Goals

The Europe Central-Africa Network (EurAc), created in 2003, serves as the umbrella organisation of over 30 non-governmental organisations and networks, working closely on the ground with civil society from the Great Lakes Region in Central Africa, and supporting their efforts in building a better future. EurAc carries out advocacy work for a strong, coherent and sustainable engagement by the European Union (EU) and its Member States (MS), integrated into a regional approach. EurAc’s mission is to lead advocacy towards the EU that contributes to the development and the implementation, by the EU and its member states, of strong and coherent policies, promoting peace, inclusive political participation, the sustainable and equitable management of natural resources and the full respect of human rights in the Great Lakes region in Central Africa through an integrated regional approach.

EU Legislative Interests

EurAc contributes to the EU’s objective to attain more coherence for sustainable development in the Great Lakes Region in Central Africa through a cross-sectoral approach that identifies gaps in existing EU policies and helps bring different elements together. The network engages on a regular basis with the institutions and bodies of the EU, both at bilateral level with individual units, as well as across different institutions. This approach allows us to understand the stakes of all involved parties and to bring the CSO inputs at every policy level, so that the voices of local partners are reflected in EU policies affecting their future. These include consultations on the development of country roadmaps through the EUDs and the European Commission; involvement in the discussions around the EU-Africa policies and strategies; the Human Rights and Democracy Action Plans; as well as the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) of the EU, its external funding instruments and designing funding for external cooperation. More concretely, the network targets some of the following EU policies and proposals: - The New EU-Africa Strategy and its implementation - The EU's Critical Raw Material Act and its impact on Central Africa - The Human Rights and Democracy Action Plans - The post-Cottonu agreement - The Neighbourhood and Democracy International Cooperation Instrument - The Multiannual financial frameworks of the EU (MFF)

Communication Activities

The majority of EurAc activities and publications on these subjects are public and are announced on our website: https://www.eurac-network.org/fr We organise public events aimed at raising awareness on the security and human rights situation in the countries from the Great Lakes Region in Central Africa. We work through a holistic approach, taking into account the potential spill-over effects of developments in one country to the entire region. Our latest publications are linked to urging the EU to appoint a Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region; to bringing the attention of the new members of the European Parliament to the priorities of human rights defenders; to expose security crises in the DRC and request support from the EU for its resolution.
