Mission & Goals

Europe Air Sports (EAS) is the voice of sports and recreational aviation at the European level. Established in 1988 as a non-profit organisation, and since 1994 affiliated to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), our objective is the long-term promotion of sports and recreational aviation in Europe. Members are the National Aero Clubs of 16 European countries, plus the European Gliding Union (EGU), the European Hang Gliding and Paragliding Union (EHPU), the European Microlight Federation (EMF), the PPL/IR Group Europe, the European Federation of Light Experimental and Vintage Aircraft (EFLEVA), the European Power Flying Union (EPFU), the European Model Flying Union (EMFU), and the European Ballooning Federation (EBF). Together we represent the interests of some 700.000 active sport and recreational airspace users. Air sports and recreational aviation comprise the activities of competitive sports and leisure flying in non-profit organisations.

EU Legislative Interests

Europe Air Sports is regulated mainly by the EASA Basic Regulation. As an organisation representing private air space users, the implementing rules and AMC developed by EASA and adopted in Comitology directly affect operations. This includes rules on pilot licensing, aircraft maintenance and operations. Access to airspace is a another important matter. Here, our work currently focuses on the the integration of drones into airspace commonly used by manned aviation. This concept is referred to as U-Space Airspace. Further improving the environmental performance of the sector is another objective and addressed by the European Green Deal and derived legislation.
