Mission & Goals
As the leading European capital market infrastructure Euronext operates eight regulated markets and provides listing, trading, clearing, settlement and custody services for issuers and investors, covering the entire capital markets value chain. Euronext runs MTS, one of Europe’s leading electronic fixed income trading markets, and Nord Pool, the European power market. Through Euronext clearing and Euronext Securities CSDs in Denmark, Greece, Italy, Norway, and Portugal, Euronext provides clearing and settlement services. As of 2025, Euronext’s regulated markets in Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Greece are home to more than 1,800 issuers with €6.7 trillion in market capitalisation, ranging from local and international blue-chip companies to small and medium enterprises. As the #1 equity listing venue in Europe and the #1 debt listing venue globally, Euronext’s products include equities, FX, ETFs, bonds, derivatives, commodities and indices.
EU Legislative Interests
Euronext actively advocates for European policies and regulations that support regulated markets, benchmark administrators, central counterparties (CCPs) and central securities depositories (CSDs), recognising their central contribution in enabling capital markets to finance the real economy by bringing together issuers and investors. Euronext’s mission is closely aligned with the aims of the Savings and Investments Union (SIU), notably integrating European markets. Euronext strongly contributes to SIU by single technology platforms and harmonised rulebooks, while nurturing the local ecosystems on which our capital markets are based. Our advocacy covers several key areas of our business operations, with the following to be highlighted. Firstly, the regulatory framework governing companies’ listings on markets is of critical importance to an exchange. We engage extensively and constructively with policymakers on the listing environment, including initiatives such as the Listings Act and revisions to the Prospectus Regulation. We also contribute to discussions on ongoing obligations for listed issuers, notably in respect of the Market Abuse Regulation and the Transparency Directive. A critical component of these discussions are the SMEs & midcap sectors, where we advocate for regulatory frameworks that encourage these companies to access public capital markets for financing. Our overarching goal is to support proposals that increase the numbers of companies choosing public capital markets as their source of financing. On the trading side, we are closely involved in discussions around MIFID/R, providing input to ensure that European market structures deliver effective price formation for the benefit of issuers and investors. We also engage on post-trade and clearing topics, notably related to EMIR and CSDR. Here we focus on improvements to the competitiveness of the European framework and safeguarding CCPs fundamental role in ensuring financial stability. Beyond these areas, we also advocate on sustainable finance, cyber resilience, fintech, corporate governance and reforms to the European supervisory architecture, ensuring that the proposals are fit for purpose and well calibrated. As a registered benchmark administrator, we closely monitor developments related to ESG benchmarks and changes to the supervisory framework.
