Mission & Goals
Eurofi was created in 2000 with the aim of contributing to the strengthening and integration of European financial markets and the related policy work. Our role is to improve the common understanding among the public and private sectors of the trends and risks affecting the financial sector, facilitate the identification of areas of improvement that may be addressed through regulatory or market-led actions and support the assessment of on-going policy proposals and the identification of new solutions when needed. These actions are intended to support the deepening of the European Union, in particular through the increasing integration of the single market in banking and financial services. All of these actions contribute in particular to the establishment of appropriate governance of economic and financial Europe, and to the improvement of dialogue between players, regulators and supervisors in the financial sector.
EU Legislative Interests
We work in a general interest perspective for the improvement of the overall financial market, using an analytical and fact-based approach that considers the impacts of trends and policies for all stakeholders concerned (Investment and Savings Union, Banking Union, Retail Investment strategy, MIFIR Review, CRR, Solvency II review, Securities clearing and settlement, Securitisation EU framework, AI act, Open Finance, FIDA, Dora, PSD, Interchange Fees Regulation, Digital Euro, CSRD, omnibus, EU Taxonomy, SFDR, Green Deal, NGEU, Economic and Monetary Union, Stability and Growth pact, ...). We also endeavour to approach issues in a holistic perspective, assessing all relevant implications from macro-economic, risk, efficiency and user standpoints.
Communication Activities
Our publications Four main documents are published every 6 months on the occasion of the annual events as an input to EU and global policy debates in the financial services sector: Regulatory Update: Policy notes prepared by the Eurofi secretariat on the macro-economic trends affecting EU financial services and on-going industry trends and financial regulation developments Scoreboards: Update on monetary policies in the EU and OECD countries and their possible impacts on the economy and the financial sector and review of the economic performance and fiscal policies of the EU and its competitiveness compared to other economies Views Magazine: Contributions provided by the public and private sector representatives taking part in the Eurofi events on key industry and macro-economic trends and regulatory developments and proposals Conference Summaries: Detailed summaries of the debates and speeches organized during the Eurofi events Our events and meetings Eurofi organizes annually two major international events (the High Level Seminar in April and the Financial Forum in September) for open and in-depth discussions about the latest policy developments impacting the financial sector and the possible implications of on-going macro-economic and industry trends. These events assemble a wide range of private sector representatives, EU and international public decision makers and representatives of the civil society. More than 1000 participants on average have attended these events over the last few years, with a balanced representation between the public and private sectors. All European countries are represented as well as several other G20 countries (US, Japan, China...) and also international organisations. These events take place just before the informal meetings of the Ministers of Finance of the EU (Ecofin) in the country of the EU Council Presidency. Eurofi has also organised similar events in parallel with G20 Presidency meetings. In addition, Eurofi organises on an ad hoc basis some meetings and workshops on specific topics depending on the regulatory agenda.
