EU Legislative Interests
Our activities focus on contributing to and influencing selected EU policy frameworks and initiatives in the areas of climate adaptation, trade, external economic relations, and geoeconomic strategy, with an increasing emphasis on connectivity, security, defence industrial cooperation, and strategic partnerships and cooperation of EU with third countries. In the field of climate policy, we engage with the implementation of the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change and relevant elements of the European Green Deal, particularly in relation to cross-border cooperation, private sector involvement, and cost-efficient adaptation measures. Our work aims to channel practical input from the private sector into EU-level discussions on resilience, sustainability, and economic impact, while also reflecting the external dimension of EU climate policies. We are interested in issues including EU´s industrial policy, EU´s critical mineral act, circular economy legislation, legislation and strategies supporting green transition and supply-chains linked to it. A key pillar of our activities is the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and its implementation, as well as its future revision. We actively contribute to discussions on EU connectivity initiatives, with a particular geographical focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. In this context, we explore how infrastructure, investment, and regulatory frameworks can strengthen the EU’s geopolitical and geoeconomic positioning. Closely linked to this, we engage in shaping new strategic partnerships, particularly in the areas of security and defence. This includes advocacy for stronger EU–Africa security cooperation, with an emphasis on aligning economic, development, and security instruments to enhance stability and mutual resilience. Our work also addresses the evolution and implementation of the EU’s geoeconomic toolbox. We follow and contribute to policy debates on instruments such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other trade-related regulatory frameworks, assessing their external implications, impact on partners, and role in advancing EU strategic autonomy. Regarding transatlantic relations, we engage with EU–US trade and investment cooperation, including frameworks such as the Trade and Technology Council (TTC). Our focus is on strengthening transatlantic business linkages—particularly in healthcare and social services—and facilitating structured private sector participation in regulatory and policy dialogues. In the context of EU external partnerships, we maintain a strong focus on both EU–India and EU–Africa relations. In EU–India relations, we monitor and contribute to discussions linked to ongoing trade negotiations and broader cooperation frameworks, including the EU–India Trade and Investment Agreements. Our work emphasizes industrial cooperation, technology transfer, and the green transition. In EU–Africa relations, we engage with policy discussions on sustainable investment, energy cooperation, and green transition, while also promoting a stronger integration of security considerations. Our objective is to support meaningful private sector participation and reinforce comprehensive EU–Africa partnerships.
