Mission & Goals

The EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition comprises a group of companies (Barry Callebaut, ETG, Ferrero, Mars Wrigley, Nestlé, Sucden and Tony’s Chocolonely), and civil society, multi-stakeholder and other organisations (Alliance for the Preservation of Forests, Better Cotton Initiative, International Cocoa Initiative, IDH, Rainforest Alliance, Solidaridad, VOCAL Coffee Alliance and VOICE Network). Our ultimate aim is to achieve sustainable agricultural and timber commodity supply chains, especially in sectors characterised by significant production by smallholder farmers, that allow farmers and workers to enjoy living incomes and in which human rights abuses, and deforestation and other forms of environmental degradation, are prevented and addressed. To achieve this aim, we argue for meaningful change in the sector, with a focus on the design and implementation of ambitious and effective EU legislation and policy and partnerships with producer countries.

Communication Activities

We have: - published position statements on the need for effective EU-wide due diligence legislation, and the need for partnership agreements with producer countries. - argued against reopening the EU Deforestation Regulation and promoted the idea of a 'community of practice', providing a forum in which operators and competent authorities can meet to discuss implementation challenges and best practices; - discussed potential input to the development by the Commission of guidelines for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and the Forced Labour Regulation. - engaged with Commissioners, Commission staff and MEPs to discuss our proposals.
