Mission & Goals

ESOMAR is the global voice of the research, analytics and insights community, speaking on behalf of over 10.000 individual professionals and 750 companies who provide or commission research, analytics and insights in more than 130 countries, all of whom agree to uphold the ICC/ESOMAR International Code on Market, Opinion and Social Research and Data Analytics. Together with national and international research associations, we set and promote professional standards and self-regulation for our sector and elevate the value of research, analytics and insights in illuminating real issues and bringing about effective decision-making. Founded in 1948, ESOMAR gathers both the provider and client side, as well as public bodies and academic institutions, and nearly half of our membership is based in European countries. To strengthen the community, ESOMAR creates and manages a comprehensive programme of industry-specific and thematic conferences, publications and communications.

EU Legislative Interests

Currently, our advocacy activities are centred on the following topics: - Data protection and privacy - AI development/deployment - Responsible research and innovation - ePrivacy - Copyright, text and data mining - Self- and Co-Regulation - Freedom to conduct opinion polling research - Audience measurement - Demographics measurement - DE&I - Platform Workers Directive

Communication Activities

We promote effective self-regulation, and enforce the ICC/ESOMAR International Code on on Market, Opinion and Social Research and Data Analytics. We issue industry position statements advising EU regulators and legislators which are regularly published on our website: https://esomar.org/services/advocacy We regularly conduct delegation visits to facilitate exchanges between European officials and sector stakeholders in order to provide inputs in EU policy-drafting and policy-making activities and to improve our regulatory compliance advice to members and the broader sector.
