Mission & Goals

The Equality Coalition is jointly convened by UNISON and the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ). Cumulatively, the member organisations in the Equality Coalition work across all nine equality categories covered by Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, as well as on other recognised protected equality grounds, including (but not limited to) socio-economic status, language, citizenship, irrelevant criminal record, and immigration status. The Section 75 categories are, in summary, as follows: Political Opinion Religious Belief Ethnicity Disability Gender Dependants Marital Status Sexual Orientation Age The Coalition’s core aims and objectives are: To ensure the equality duties, as prescribed by Section 75, are put into practice. To raise the public profile of the equality agenda in Northern Ireland. To facilitate information sharing. To engage in strategic planning that will effect change for critical equality issues.

EU Legislative Interests

Post Brexit UK/EU deals impacting Northern Ireland, with a focus on the implementation of the Windsor Framework. EU Citizens Rights in the UK as set out in the UK/EU Withdrawal Agreement Legislative and policy proposals relevant to the Article 2 non-diminution and Annex 1 keeping pace commitments of the Windsor Framework EU legislative and proposals/policies impacting Northern Ireland, including legislation and policies with an impact on North/South cooperation and movement across the border on the island of Ireland. e.g the Defence of Democracy Package

Event Co-hosted by European University Association and Civil Society Europe 10th April 2024 in European Parliament. · Meeting with Luiza Bara European Commission with Civil Society Europe re: Defence of Democracy Package · Meeting with the Co-chairs of the specialised Committee on the Implementation of the Windsor Framework as a member of the Windsor Framework Implementation Delegation- 23rd January, 22nd April, 10th July, 17th October. · Briefing at UK-EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement Domestic Advisory Group Civil Society Forum meeting-20th September 2024 . NI UK-EU Civic Working Group on Windsor Framework meetings with Co-Chairs of the Specialised Committee on the Windsor Framework (under the EU Commission). Meeting dates- 26 Nov 25, 29 Sept 25, 5 Jun 25, 5 Mar 25 .Attended EU Commission Work Programme Seminar on 27 November 2025.
