Mission & Goals

Established in the year 2000 as the European Hydrogen Association, EHA’s network of hydrogen experts, has been playing a leading role in the first industrial and mobile cross-border projects. EHA has been involved in the development of the first demonstration projects under the EU FCH JU and CEF programmes, including buses (CHIC), taxis (HyTEC), hydrogen refuelling stations (HIT), and local distribution vehicles (FREVUE). More recently, EHA has been active within the Clean Hydrogen Partnership CHP and CEF programmes, in cooperation with national and regional governments, in creating synergies between local energy networks and inland shipping and road transport, along the North-Sea Rhine Mediterranean and Baltic TEN T corridors. For this purpose the EHA co-organized together with the Dutch govenrment and DG MOVE the first Synergy Event in 2023 in Amsterdam. The EHA has also been involved in the first EU Synergy project TSO 2020 and in the development of EU Hydrogen Valleys.

EU Legislative Interests

EHA is the first European hydrogen organisation to establish a presence in Brussels in 2006 and has become a trusted actor within EU institutions, participating in various advisory bodies, such as ETIP SNET and the Sustainable Transport Forum. EHA for this purpose has followed all major legislation on sustainable energy and transport topics, SET Plan, Fuels Directive, AFIR, CEF Regulation, RED I, II and III, contributing to various consultations and surveys. EHA is currently closely monitoring regulatory measures regarding development of the European Hydrogen Bank and Hydrogen Auctions and the dual use role of hydrogen in military and civil transport in the Military Mobility Package, as well as the Net-Zero Industry Act, Digital services Act and AI Act, as data centres are expected to have a significant impact on the hydrogen market in Europe and beyond.

Communication Activities

THe EHA, since 2006 has been responsible for the communications of various hydrogen and fuel cell projects and is contributing to the organisation of hydrogen events at EU and national level. On EHA's website the EHA maintains a publicly accessible EU Synergy map, with relevant information on the locations of the main hydrogen infrastructure developments along EU's transport corridors and in logistic hubs, i.e. ports.
