Mission & Goals
EDEN Digital Learning Europe is Europe’s leading network for advancing digital education. As a professional community for smart learning, we foster knowledge exchange and enhance understanding among professionals in distance and e-learning, while promoting best practices and policies throughout Europe and beyond. Founded in 2019, EDEN Digital Learning Europe emerged as a successor to the European Distance and E-Learning Network following the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Community. We are open to both institutions and individuals involved in e-learning and open and distance education, striving to provide a comprehensive range of expertise, encompassing all levels of formal and non-formal education and training. With a long-standing track record of fostering networking, international cooperation, and professional development, EDEN Europe’s strong and active membership serves as a key asset.
EU Legislative Interests
EDEN DLE’s cross sectoral priority areas are digital education and inclusive education aimed at the school education, higher education, vocational education and training, adult learning sectors. EDEN Digital Learning Europe is having in its goals and activities the promotion and achievement of EU strategic objectives for Education. In that sense we are working as association to promote lifelong learning mobility, through the HE institutions members of our network. Also we are promoting equity, social cohesion, and active citizenship and the improvement of the quality and efficiency of education and training through our open actitivies during the year. EDEN is a member organisation in the DG EAC Working Groups of the European Commission, contributing to the achievement of the European Education Area and the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027). EDEN contributes to EU policy development by EDEN MB members participating in the 2 EU Educational Policy Working Groups (EC Working Group on Higher Education and on Digital Education, Learning, Teaching and Assessment - DELTA). The monthly EDEN Newsflashes have a session called “European Commission Corner” to inform EDEN members and stakeholders of the Education and Training sector about the latest developments of the relevant EU policy initiatives.
Communication Activities
Most of our members are Higher Educational institutions and experts in the field, but the outreach of our organization goes far beyond that basis. The academically acknowledged face-to-face and virtual conferences and webinars attract audiences from all levels of formal and non-formal education and training. Higher education, secondary school, K-12, VET teachers, institution leaders, HE students, researchers, decision makers, ed tech companies and other relevant stakeholders are targeted by EDEN activities. Both researchers and practitioners are involved in discussions about relevant topics like the dissemination of the European Digital Education policy developments or the latest research results and also best practices of the ODL field. Our main target groups are: • Researchers – they are invited to contribute to the conferences as keynote speakers, authors or presenters, to the webinars as panelists, to EDEN Journals as authors or peer-reviewers. • Practitioners – are invited to the conferences as authors and presenters or audience, as webinar speakers and participants, to EDEN journals as authors. • Policymakers – are invited to our conferences and webinars as keynotes, contributors, panel members. Generally, EC and UNESCO representatives are approached, but important national educational policymakers of the hosting country are also involved in our programmes. • Emerging researchers, young scholars as a special target group - are addressed by the PhD Symposium and the dedicated awards on the conference. • All experts, practitioners, and students of the field of digital learning are addressed by the online events, the open access recordings of which are also available at our website and YouTube channel. The streaming and the recordings of webinars and conference plenary sessions are freely accessible for the audience on EDEN Youtube channel.
