Mission & Goals
Our mission is to promote the use of in-depth investigations to expose environmental and social crimes, injustice and their links to global consumption. We believe in the unique power of primary investigative research and reporting to bring attention to pressing issues of human rights and environmental justice. We seek to harness this power both by carrying out investigations and helping others to conduct their own. At present our work is principally focused on forest-related issues, including crime, corruption and human rights abuses relating to the production and trade of forest-risk commodities including timber, palm oil, soy, beef and leather.
EU Legislative Interests
External-facing EU actions relating to climate, especially forest policy, including the EU FLEGT Action Plan, EU Timber Regulatio, the 2019 Communication on Stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the World's Forests, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)
Communication Activities
Earthsight carries out research on EU imports of forest-risk commodities linked to deforestation and associated corruption, crime and human rights abuses, and publishes the information with the aim of triggering action by the EU, EU Member States, and corporations active in the EU. We also analyse and comment on those actions (or lack thereof). Our findings are published as reports and films, and are covered by the media. We also occasionally present them at relevant policy meetings.
