Mission & Goals
DUO for a JOB is a European intergenerational mentoring organization for employment, founded in 2012 in Brussels. Its mission is to improve access to work for young people from immigrant backgrounds by matching them with volunteer mentors aged 50 and over who share their professional experience, networks, and understanding of the labour market. Our purpose is threefold: to reduce inequalities in access to employment by tackling structural barriers such as limited networks, lack of social capital, insufficient knowledge of the job market, and discrimination; to value the often underused experience of seniors by offering them a structured and meaningful way to contribute; and to strengthen social cohesion through positive intergenerational and intercultural relationships. Since its creation, DUO has supported more than 10,000 duos across 16 cities in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, building a proven, impactful, and scalable European model with strong growth potential.
EU Legislative Interests
Development of a European policy on social mentoring for young people with fewer educational or employment opportunities: This effort to develop mentoring in Europe builds on the own-initiative report on the European Education Area approved by Members of the European Parliament on November 11, 2021, as well as the two working sessions held at the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 and November 15, 2023, under the French and Spanish Presidencies. It also follows the opinion issued by the European Committee of the Regions entitled “Mentoring: a powerful tool to combat inequalities.”
