Mission & Goals

In Germany, the core activities of the German Red Cross (GRC) focus on welfare and social work, health programmes, including the provision of first aid and ambulance services, national level disaster preparedness, youth work and public advocacy on humanitarian issues. GRC is a member of the German Welfare Association (BAGFW). GRC has a federal structure with 19 regional branches, 455 district branches, 3.872 local branches, 31 nurses associations, 1 federation of nurses associations, 5 blood transfusion centers (1,5 Mio. blood donators). Various GRC activities are implemented by the 457.414 volunteers and 211.836 staff members. More than 2,5 Mio GRC members support the organisation. As a national aid organisation and auxiliary to the government, GRC is part of the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, which provides a worldwide network for operations. With 191 National Societies, the movement is the largest humanitarian organisation worldwide.

Communication Activities

The German Red Cross regularly conducts communication campaigns that address the financing of humanitarian aid. Similar campaigns also focus on political topics such as migration or development policy, and occasionally on climate change. The German Red Cross does not conduct communication campaigns that specifically relate to the listed policy areas or legislative proposals.

For the year 2025 the financial audit has not been finalized yet. GRC did receive EU grants in 2025 and will share this information once the financial audit has been performed.
