Mission & Goals

The DGG is a long-standing digital health association with 27 years of experience in accelerating the development and meaningful routine use of eHealth, telemedicine and digital health services in Germany and Europe. The DGG is the ISfTeH National Member for Germany. Through a rich collaborative network, e.g. in HIMSS chapters, DGG supports mutual learning with a global perspective. As an organisation and through its members, DGG has made significant contributions to building the European EHR and cross-border ecosystem. DGG advocates digitally-enabled integrated person-centred care and thus cross-sectoral and decentralised/localised health and social care. DGG Interop Council representatives support consensus building on clinically oriented health IT architectures, standards and profiles. DGG partners in dialogues on EHDS, telemedicine, etc. German legislators and implementers at federal and state level, gematik (National Agency for Digital Medicine), Medical Informatics Initiative.

EU Legislative Interests

After many years of supporting cross-border eHealth services (myHealth@EU), DGG is now focusing on the full spectrum of the European Health Data Space, e.g. by participating in consultations and organising scientific meetings with an international audience (in cooperation with the TMF – Technology and Methods Platform for Networked Medical Research e.V. and actors in digital healthcare and research in Germany). DGG board and members have been accepted to participate in the stakeholder and advisory group mechanisms of the Joint Action "Towards the European Health Data Space (TEHDAS)". The DGG will contribute e.g. perspectives from recent progress towards meaningful digital services and therapeutics in Germany as well as European and global experiences.

Communication Activities

Hosting webinars on telemedicine in routine medical practice, EHDS enactment and correspondence to National legislation in France and Germany, making clinical data fit for secondary data use.

Additional Information

In response to the valuable comments given in the quality review, the "number of persons active" under heading 10 has been revised. 50%: European activities are driven, nearly fully pro bono, by the President and Acting Board Member of the Association, who has a long track record of working in the European eHealth Stakeholder domain (and having been a mandated member of the EC eHealth Stakeholder Group). [we will update our descriptive texts with the next annual update]. 10%: Moreover, a second board member is explicitly mandated for "International Affairs" (see contact details of person for being copied in invitations to EU consultations). Given longstanding networking of member individuals in Digital Health, the Association has a notable footprint both in national and European Digital Health debates (despite its small budget).

Commissioner Meetings

No recorded meetings with EU commissioners.
