Mission & Goals

acatech – the National Academy of Science and Engineering in Germany has a mandate from the Federal Government and the Länder to contribute expert knowledge to the policymaking process. It provides effective structures for the science-based discussion of strategic technology issues. Experts from science, industry and civil society develop evidence-based proposals as input for public and policy debate. Our topics address amongst others Strategic Sovereignty, Security, AI, Data Spaces, Climate and Environmental Protection, Sustainable Mobility, Life and Health Sciences. acatech represents Germany’s technological sciences at the European umbrella organisation Euro-CASE and its global counterpart CAETS.

Communication Activities

European Sounding Board on Innovation The European Sounding Board on Innovation is an independent advisory vehicle stimulating further-development of strategic aspects of European R&D&I and discussions of emerging dossiers with high-level representatives from European academia and industry. Organisation Members

acatech has over 600 Members. These are scientists from the fields of engineering, the applied sciences, the humanities, economics and the social sciences who are invited to join the Academy on the basis of their outstanding scientific achievements (more information: https://en.acatech.de/academy/organisation/members/). The Senate of acatech is the second pillar of the Academy, alongside the Members. It comprises approximately 100 prominent individuals from technology companies, industry associations, and major scientific organisations (more information: https://en.acatech.de/academy/organisation/senate/).

Additional Information

acatech acted as coordinator of SAPEA (05/2022 - 12/2024), a CSA, received a total of close to €3.7 million in Horizon Europe funding. Around 80% of the funds were allocated to the project partners. acatech as coordinator of PrepDSpace4Mobility (10/2022 - 09/2023), a CSA, received a total of €1 million in Horizon Europe funding. Almost 90% of the funds were allocated to the project partners. acatech as coordinator of deployEMDS (11/2023-10/2026) will receive a total of almost €8 million in Horizon Europe funding.
