Mission & Goals

Democracy International wants people to have the final political power. Democracy International aims to strengthen direct democracy and citizens’ participation on the local, national and transnational level across the globe. Democracy International stands for a globalisation of democracy and a democratisation of transnational decision-making processes. Democracy International intends to realise these main goals to accomplish its mission: Learning and exchange Help and development Transnational drawing together

EU Legislative Interests

- Regulation (EU) 2019/788 on the European Citizens’ Initiative - Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/1779 - Commission Recommendation (EU) 2023/2836 on promoting the engagement and effective participation of citizens and civil society organisations in public policy-making processes (related to the European Citizens’ Panels) - 2025-2029 European Democracy Action Plan such as the Digital Services Act (DSA) - European Commission’s Better Regulation Agenda (COM(2021)219) and initiatives to strengthen participatory democracy under Article 11 TEU - The European Democracy Shield initiative announced by the Commission and embedded within the European Democracy Action Plan (COM(2020) 790) and Regulation (EU) 2024/900 on Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising

Organisation Members

Democracy International is a non-profit association registered in Germany, therefore membership is open to both individuals and organizations. At present, Democracy International has a total of 105 voting members, comprising 95 individuals and 10 organizations. The organizational members are: Più Democrazia Italia, Mehr Demokratie e.V., Mehr Demokratie Austria, Meer Democratie Netherlands, Meer Democratie Belgium, Association for the ECI e.V., Omnibus gGmbH, IG Eurovision, ManaBalss, and Mehr Demokratie und Bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen Lëtzebuerg.
