Mission & Goals
You may know the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) principles developed in the 1990s by Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart and William McDonough. This design approach views materials as nutrients circulating in healthy, safe ecosystems and laid the foundation for today’s circular economy. The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, founded in 2012, is an independent non-profit that created the global Cradle to Cradle Certified® standard. This multi-attribute certification is used worldwide by designers, brands, and manufacturers to innovate and optimize materials and products according to robust science-based measures. The transition to a circular economy needs open and innovative widespread collaboration between actors from across industries and sectors. This is why we engage in partnerships and initiatives that equip businesses, governments, and stakeholders with the tools and knowledge to transform how products are designed and made for a healthy and circular future.
EU Legislative Interests
Become a coordinator for the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) The Commission is calling for applications with a view to selecting members of the Coordination group of the ECESP. The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute is applying to act as the Ambassadors of the Platform and the circular economy and bioeconomy transition by representing the Platform this year.
Communication Activities
Cradle to Cradle Certified® (C2C Certified®) has long been at the forefront of setting rigorous standards for products and materials to enable the transition towards a circular economy. In collaboration with 2B Policy, we initiated a mapping of key pieces of legislation to align with the C2C Certified standard. Our holistic product certification framework covers numerous sectors, making many legislative texts relevant for comparison.
