Mission & Goals
Courage International is an international non-governmental association dedicated to upholding the free flow of information, freedom of expression, press freedom, and the right to privacy—cornerstones of free and democratic societies. We work to protect and strengthen these rights at both global and local levels through public awareness efforts, strategic litigation, and advocacy directed at governments, parliaments, international institutions, and other key actors.
EU Legislative Interests
Council Regulation (EC) No 2271/96 Courage International is working towards combatting the extraterritorial effects of US Executive Order 14203, in which the US government imposed sanctions on several ICC judges and Court Officials, a UN Special Rapporteur and a number of civil society organisations. To that end, Courage would like to direct its influence towards the European Parliament, and in particular the European Commission and Council to activate the so called blocking statute against the aforementioned Executive Order and plans to organise events, petitions and public awareness campaigns to that end.
Communication Activities
Courage International is currently collaborating with MEP Tineke Strik and others to organise a Round table event in the European Parliament an April 22, 2026. The goal of the meeting is to make MEPs, the Commission and Perm Reps aware of the extraterritorial effects of US Executive Order 14203 on Judges of the ICC and UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and to encourage them to bring about the activation of the Blocking Statute and the updating of its Annex to include Executive Order 14203. To this end, policy papers will be drafted, public petitions could be started as well as social media campaigns and online publications.
