Mission & Goals

EU trade association developing ambitious EU & International codes and standards for high quality gas detection equipment & services. It focuses on carbon monoxide (CO) danger using awareness and education campaigns as well as EN-compliant CO alarms and portable flue gas analysers. CoGDEM's objective is to raise awareness on existing EU standards critically important to CO safety (EN 50291 technical standard and EN 50292 code of practice for CO alarms; EN 50379 technical standard and EN TS50612 codes of practice for FGAs; EN 14604 technical standard for smoke alarms), and ultimately help prevent CO intoxications and fatalities in the residential building sector.

Communication Activities

Carbon monoxide roundtables (12 editions between 2009 and 2025 - some of them held in the European Parliament, others online). Events organised together with the European Fire Safety Alliance (EuroFSA) and other stakeholders in the framework of the EU Fire Safety Weeks 2022, 2023 and 2024 (high-level policy events in the European Parliament, and technical workshop focusing on fire, electrical, gas and CO safety with participants from the EU institutions). Meetings with EU policymakers (MEPs, Member State representatives) to suggest amendments to the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Emails to and meeting with the European Commission (DG Environment) to discuss the Batteries Regulation and its specific requirements regarding the removability and replaceability of batteries.
