Mission & Goals
The Council for Responsible Nutrition UK (CRN UK) is a trade association based in the United Kingdom (UK), whose members market food supplements, functional foods and their ingredients in the UK, across the whole of the European Union (EU) and globally. Our primary goals include: 1) Providing technical, scientific and policy experience and experts to guide regulators and policy makers in the UK, EU and across the globe. 2) To work in partnership with all regulators to ensure future regulations are based on science and evidence-based principles. 3) Raising the standard of the industry by sharing our technical, scientific and regulatory expertise to help ensure good manufacturing standards and safe products for consumers. 4) Engaging with government agencies on complex regulatory and scientific matters related to food supplements, functional foods and their ingredients through our scientific and technical advisors.
EU Legislative Interests
a) All food-specific laws, including food hygiene, food supplements, addition of vitamins and minerals and other substances to foods, foods for special groups, food improvement agents, food contact materials, contaminants, microbiological criteria, novel foods, nanotechnology, irradiation, food information, nutrition and health claims etc. b) Food and Nutrition policy, including malnutrition, obesity etc. c) Risk assessment d) Other legislation that might impact on foods, including traditional herbal registration, medicines etc.
Communication Activities
As well as the normal trade association operations, CRN UK produces educational materials (e.g. information and guidance documents, other publications, short videos) for its members, other food businesses, enforcement authorities and consumers, which are made available on its website. CRN UK also supports various food-related events and its representatives speak at key events and conferences.
