Mission & Goals

Cosmetics Europe represents the interests of the cosmetics and personal care industry in Europe. Ranging from dermo cosmetics, antiperspirants, fragrances, make-up and shampoos, to soaps, sunscreens and toothpastes, cosmetics and personal care products play an essential role in all stages of our life. European citizens use cosmetic products as part of their daily lives, serving their essential needs and expectations. These needs and expectations drive our industry as well as delivering innovative products that enhance consumers’ well-being and quality of life and boost their self-esteem. Cosmetics Europe works closely with the European Institutions to achieve balanced policies and legislation, aiming to contribute to a regulatory and policy environment that encourages innovation and supports a strong and competitive industry serving the needs of consumers. Cosmetics Europe work with other trade associations to address cross sectorial issues impacting the European industry.

Communication Activities

Events: - On 11-12 June 2025, Cosmetics Europe hosted its first fully online annual conference. Under the theme of “Staying Ahead”, CEAC 2025 gathered industry experts, policy makers and companies, who discussed general, technical and regulatory developments in the cosmetics industry including the European Green Deal, empowering consumers, international developments and digital future. The multidisciplinary programme included both panel discussions and parallel sessions and digital networking opportunities were provided. - On 11 June 2020, Cosmetics Europe hosted a virtual premiere of the “Essentials for Daily Life” film series produced by BBC StoryWorks. The series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the dynamic, innovative and progressive cosmetics and personal care sector, exploring what the sector is doing to enhance people’s lives, support the planet and improve products. - In conjunction with the ICCR Annual Meeting hosted by the European Commission, on 10 December 2020 Cosmetics Europe organised an online International Symposium. Under the title “Who Needs Cosmetics?”, it offered the opportunity to exchange views, discuss policy challenges and gain insights on such topics as the role of cosmetics and the cosmetics industry in addressing the COVID crisis, broader health benefits of cosmetics and personal care products, beyond COVID, as well as other ways in which cosmetics and personal care products boost wellbeing, self-confidence and quality of life. - An ongoing activity is the dialogue with stakeholders in workshops and dedicated sessions on regulatory use of novel approaches for safety assessment an d decision making in areas such as systemic toxicity, genotoxicity, Skin Sensitisation & Read Across. The LRSS programme is coming to an end in 2021 and the Cosmetics sector is planning to continue its research efforts with a new programme that will extend beyond Europe and will have a global reach out.
