Mission & Goals
Our organisation is a German network of church-based agencies, non-governmental organisations, and civil society initiatives committed to promoting and safeguarding human rights in Mexico. We work in close cooperation with local partner organisations that advocate for democracy, access to justice, accountability, and the protection of individuals and communities affected by human rights violations. In Europe, we carry out advocacy, awareness-raising and constructive political dialogue with policymakers in Germany and within the institutions of the European Union. Our primary objective is to ensure that the human rights situation in Mexico is appropriately considered within the EU’s political agenda and that EU external action and development cooperation policies remain coherent with international human rights standards and obligations.
EU Legislative Interests
We follow and engage with EU legislation, strategies, and policy processes related to human rights, democracy, the rule of law, development cooperation, corporate accountability, and migration. This includes, inter alia: EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders The Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI – Global Europe) EU legislation on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD) EU–Mexico Human Rights Dialogue EU Strategic Framework and Action Plan on Human Rights Our engagement aims to provide evidence-based input and to contribute to the effective implementation of EU commitments in these areas.
Communication Activities
Our communication-related outreach towards EU institutions has included the preparation and dissemination of policy briefs, reports, and statements addressing human rights concerns in Mexico and Latin America. We have shared these materials with Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the European External Action Service to inform debates and policy development. We have also organised and participated in public events, conferences, and roundtables in Brussels, including activities linked to the EU–Mexico Human Rights Dialogue. In addition, we regularly communicate with EU stakeholders through advocacy campaigns, newsletters, and targeted information updates that highlight findings from our partner organisations in Mexico. These communication activities aim to ensure that EU policies towards Mexico and Latin America fully respect human rights standards and contribute to strengthening democracy, justice, and accountability.
